Created: JANUARY 25, 2025

Reports indicate that Luigi Mangione, the suspect in the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, left Manhattan by train, not bus as initially believed. Mangione allegedly shot Thompson on December 4th as Thompson entered a Midtown Manhattan Hilton. Following the shooting, Mangione, 26, was apprehended five days later in Altoona, Pennsylvania.

Law enforcement initially suspected Mangione boarded a bus after surveillance footage placed him at the George Washington Bridge bus station. However, updated information from police sources cited by CBS News and ABC News suggests he took the subway from the bus station to Penn Station, where he purchased a train ticket to Pennsylvania. Mangione is currently incarcerated in Pennsylvania, awaiting extradition to New York, where he was denied bail on Tuesday.

Mangione's arrest took place at an Altoona McDonald's. He reportedly presented a fake ID to local police and exhibited signs of nervousness when questioned about recent travel to New York.

NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny previously disclosed to Fox News that a handwritten manifesto denouncing the healthcare industry, and specifically mentioning UnitedHealthcare, was discovered. Public speculation suggests Mangione harbored significant resentment towards both the healthcare sector and capitalism.

Mangione faces numerous charges in New York, including murder, weapons possession, and possession of a forged document. He also faces charges in Pennsylvania related to forgery, carrying a firearm without a license, and providing false identification. UnitedHealthcare has confirmed that Mangione was not one of their insured members.
