Celebrity chef John Mountain, known for his appearances on the BBC’s "Great British Menu," has sparked controversy by banning vegans from his Fyre restaurant in Connolly, Perth, Australia. The ban follows an online dispute with a vegan customer who criticized the restaurant for not having plant-based options.
Mountain explained that he had initially agreed to accommodate a vegan customer's request but overlooked it while catering a private event. The customer subsequently posted a negative review on Facebook, expressing disappointment over the lack of vegan choices and questioning the restaurant's longevity. Mountain responded defensively, stating that vegans are a "very low minority" in the area and that they would no longer be served.

The online exchange escalated, with Mountain claiming the restaurant was bombarded with negative reviews, although some patrons have also voiced support. He ultimately declared, "F--k vegans seriously… I’m done. It’s not a vegan restaurant… if they want vegan food, they can go to a vegan restaurant." Mountain attributed the ban to the "rebuttal and attitude" of vegans, accusing them of attempting to "ruin" his restaurant.
