Following recent burglaries targeting the homes of NFL stars Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Joe Burrow, the crime wave has now reached the NBA. Dallas Mavericks star Luka Dončić's residence was broken into Friday night, according to his business manager, Lara Beth Seager.
Fortunately, no one was home during the incident, and everyone is safe. The burglary occurred just two days after Dončić sustained a calf strain that will sideline him for approximately a month. The Mavericks were playing against the Phoenix Suns in Phoenix on Friday when the break-in happened.
This incident follows a pattern of similar burglaries targeting high-profile athletes while they are away from home for games. NFL Network's Tom Pelissero previously reported that the FBI is investigating the string of burglaries, believed to be linked to a South American crime syndicate. The NFL has warned players to be vigilant and take precautions, including installing security systems and refraining from posting real-time location updates or photos of valuable possessions on social media.
The league also issued a memo urging players to enhance their home security measures. Joe Burrow, whose home was among those targeted, recently spoke about the invasion of privacy he experienced, highlighting the challenges athletes face in balancing their public lives with personal security.
Burrow stated, "I feel like my privacy has been violated...way more is already out there than I would want out there and that I care to share." He acknowledged the difficulties of living in the public eye and the ongoing process of learning to navigate the challenges it presents.
