Father of Missing 4-Year-Old Codi Bigsby Indicted on Murder Charges

Created: JANUARY 24, 2025

Cory Bigsby, the father of Codi Bigsby who vanished in 2022, has been indicted by a Virginia grand jury on charges of murder and tampering with a body. Bigsby initially reported his 4-year-old son missing from their Norfolk apartment in February 2022, claiming he last saw him around 2 a.m. However, law enforcement expressed doubts about the veracity of Bigsby's account at the time. Bigsby's attorney, Amina Matheny-Willard, asserts his innocence and plans to file a federal lawsuit against the Hampton Roads Regional Jail, alleging unconstitutional and coercive actions. Previously, in July 2022, Bigsby was indicted on 30 counts of child abuse related to Codi and his three siblings. He has remained incarcerated since then. The new indictments, filed June 5th, accuse the Army veteran of murdering his son and subsequently attempting to hide the body. Codi's remains have not been found, and he is presumed deceased. Following the announcement of the murder charges, a vigil was held for Codi in Norfolk.
