Leroy Upshaw, the former sheriff of Barbour County, Alabama, has admitted guilt to a felony ethics charge. The charge stems from accusations that Upshaw, 52, diverted funds intended for law enforcement and prisoner care into his personal and family bank accounts. The Alabama attorney general's office reported that Upshaw, or someone acting on his behalf, wrote checks totaling over $32,000 from sheriff's office accounts and deposited them into personal accounts. Upshaw served as sheriff from 2007 to 2019. Attorney General Steve Marshall emphasized that misappropriation of public funds will not be tolerated and expressed satisfaction that Upshaw is being held responsible.

This follows another incident where an Indiana police officer was tragically shot and killed during a traffic stop, highlighting the dangers faced by law enforcement officials.
