A Kentucky man faces multiple charges after a reckless beer run while intoxicated resulted in his son being in a coma. Last week, 40-year-old Austin Brooks was driving under the influence with his son and nephew in the truck bed, aiming to buy more beer, according to the nephew's account to authorities.

Brooks was reportedly driving at excessive speeds on wet roads, causing concern for the boys in the back. As they approached Love's Truck Stop and the I-75 overpass, the boys feared Brooks would enter the interstate. They banged on the truck cab to get his attention, but their attempts were unsuccessful. Fearing for their safety due to Brooks' intoxicated state, the two jumped from the moving vehicle. According to the arrest citation, Brooks did not stop the truck after the boys jumped.

While the nephew sustained minor injuries, Brooks' son suffered a possible brain injury and remains in a coma at the University of Kentucky Hospital. Brooks is now facing charges of wanton endangerment, endangering the welfare of a minor, and leaving the scene of an accident.
