The Minnesota Lynx celebrated a momentous occasion on Sunday night, retiring the jersey of legendary center Sylvia Fowles. The ceremony was the culmination of a weekend reunion for the Lynx, honoring the franchise's 25 greatest players, a roster that includes other WNBA icons like Maya Moore, Lindsay Whalen, Seimone Augustus, and Rebekkah Brunson.

Fowles, known for her humility, expressed gratitude to those who supported her throughout her career. "My journey has been shaped by the people around me," she shared. "This honor is about me, but I wouldn't be here without their constant support."

Fowles' number 34 now hangs in the rafters alongside the retired jerseys of her fellow Lynx greats, with the exception of Moore, whose jersey retirement is anticipated in the future.

"I've never been focused on personal accolades or records," Fowles commented. "Seeing my jersey up there signifies that I've fulfilled my purpose."

The imposing 6-foot-6 center secured WNBA championships with the Lynx in 2015 and 2017, earning Finals MVP honors in both title runs. She retired after the 2022 season.

Fowles' WNBA career began in 2008 when she was drafted second overall by the Chicago Sky. She joined the Lynx mid-season in 2015 and spent the remaining eight years of her illustrious 15-year career in Minnesota.

Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve praised Fowles' dedication, recalling, "She sacrificed half a season because she was determined to be a Lynx. That speaks volumes about her character. Her actions and words have consistently demonstrated her commitment to this team. She has surpassed all our expectations."

Fowles retired as the WNBA's all-time leading rebounder with 4,007. She also holds the league record for double-doubles (193) and was named the league MVP in 2017.

During the ceremony, Moore lauded Fowles, stating, "She's the most dominant player I know, yet incredibly kind."

Fowles' impressive career includes four Defensive Player of the Year awards, eight All-Star selections, and four Olympic gold medals with Team USA.

Adding to the celebratory atmosphere, the Lynx secured their first home win of the season on the same day, defeating the Los Angeles Sparks 91-86 after overcoming an 11-point deficit late in the game.
