Ohtani's Record-Breaking Home Run Highlights Historic June

Created: JANUARY 18, 2025

Shohei Ohtani, the Los Angeles Angels' two-way sensation, concluded an exceptional June with a remarkable feat, smashing his 30th home run of the season in a game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. While the Angels ultimately lost 6-2, Ohtani's incredible 493-foot blast in the sixth inning was the longest home run of both his career and the 2023 MLB season.

Angels manager Phil Nevin was in awe of the prodigious home run, stating that he'd never witnessed a ball hit farther and doubted he ever would. Ohtani's June performance was truly extraordinary, with 15 home runs, 29 RBIs, and a .394 batting average.

This remarkable home run came just a day after Ohtani hit his 14th home run of the month against the Chicago White Sox, setting a new Angels franchise record for most home runs in a single month. This achievement surpassed the previous record of 13 held jointly by Ohtani himself, Albert Pujols, and Tim Salmon.

With this milestone, Ohtani joined an elite group of only nine players to hit 30 home runs before July 1st, a feat not accomplished since Chris Davis in 2013. Nevin acknowledged Ohtani's exceptional form and the impact he and Mike Trout have on the team's performance when they are both playing at their best.

Despite Ohtani's historic performance, the Angels lost their third consecutive game, bringing their season record to 44-40.
