Amidst growing public unease, White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby acknowledged the ongoing investigation into numerous drone sightings, emphasizing that many, though not all, confirmed reports have been attributed to conventional aircraft. He urged citizens to report sightings and related documentation to the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI.
Kirby's statements follow a letter from New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy to President Biden requesting additional federal support, citing limitations on state and local law enforcement's ability to address drone activity. Murphy's letter highlights the increasing number of unanswered questions and the spread of speculation surrounding these sightings.

While acknowledging the possibility of commercial drones being involved, Kirby admitted the government's current lack of definitive answers. He assured the public that agencies are diligently working to understand the situation and emphasized the seriousness with which reported sightings and accompanying evidence are being treated. An inter-agency discussion resulted in the deployment of additional personnel and technology to New Jersey to gain a clearer picture of the aerial activities.

The urgency of the situation is underscored by Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden's call for a state of emergency. This follows reports such as that of Rep. Chris Smith, R-N.J., who recounted a conversation with a U.S. Coast Guard commanding officer describing a Coast Guard vessel being tracked by over a dozen drones. The proximity of these sightings to military installations like Naval Weapons Station Earle and Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst further heightens concerns. Middletown, N.J., Mayor Tony Perry also voiced his apprehension about drone activity near Naval Weapons Station Earle.

Kirby reiterated the government's commitment to transparency and urged continued public cooperation in reporting any further sightings.
