Wisconsin Man Sentenced for Threatening Governor and Officials

Created: JANUARY 25, 2025

A Wisconsin woodworker has been sentenced to a year in prison after pleading guilty to threatening a former Dane County official. 53-year-old Michael Yaker will serve a reduced sentence due to time already served in jail. As part of a plea agreement, Yaker admitted to making additional threats against other officials, including Governor Tony Evers, over an eight-month period. These threats, sent via email, Facebook, and phone calls, contained violent language and, in some cases, racial slurs.

Yaker's threatening behavior reportedly stems from a decade-old grievance related to a denied county contract. He has a history of similar offenses, having been convicted in 2016 for making violent threats. Following his release, Yaker will be under supervision and required to undergo mental health treatment. He expressed remorse in court, stating his desire to avoid causing harm or fear.
