2024 MLB Schedule Unveiled: Cubs and Rangers Kick Off Season, International Games Highlight Calendar

Created: JANUARY 27, 2025

Major League Baseball has announced its 2024 schedule, revealing that the Chicago Cubs and Texas Rangers will face off in the lone interleague matchup on opening day, March 28th. This marks the second season of MLB's balanced schedule.

The announcement comes seven weeks earlier than the 2023 schedule release. All 30 teams are expected to be in action on March 28th, following a two-game series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres in Seoul, South Korea, on March 20-21. This marks MLB's first foray into regular-season games in South Korea.

Other American League opening day matchups include the Los Angeles Angels at Baltimore, Detroit at the Chicago White Sox, the New York Yankees at Houston, Minnesota at Kansas City, Cleveland at Oakland, Boston at Seattle, and Toronto at Tampa Bay.

The Oakland Athletics' opening day game could potentially be their last in Oakland, as their lease at the Coliseum expires at the end of the 2024 season. The team is hoping to relocate to a new stadium in Las Vegas.

National League games on March 28th feature Colorado at Arizona, Washington at Cincinnati, St. Louis at the Dodgers, Pittsburgh at Miami, Milwaukee at the New York Mets, Atlanta at Philadelphia, and San Francisco at San Diego.

With all teams playing on opening day, 2024 mirrors the full slate from the 2023 season, a practice not seen since 1968. The March 28th start date ties 2019 for the earliest opening day, excluding international games.

Beyond the U.S. and Canada, games are planned for Mexico City (Houston and Colorado on April 27th and 28th) and London (Mets and Phillies on June 8th and 9th). A special tribute to the Negro Leagues and Willie Mays is scheduled for June 20th, with the Cardinals and Giants playing at Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama.

The All-Star Game will take place on July 16th at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, and the regular season is slated to conclude on September 29th.

Intercity rivalries will be reignited with matchups between the Yankees and Mets, Cubs and White Sox, Dodgers and Angels, and Giants and Athletics.

The only scheduled doubleheaders will see Oakland host Texas on May 8th and the Giants host the Rockies on July 27th.

Fans can also look forward to some rare interleague visits. Houston will play at Wrigley Field for the first time since 2013, the Dodgers will visit Yankee Stadium for the first time since 2016, and San Diego will play at Fenway Park for the first time since 2013.
