Dallas-Area Doctor Shot, Suspect Injured in Police Shootout After Car Crash

A dramatic incident unfolded near Dallas on Tuesday when a man allegedly shot a doctor at a medical facility. The suspect's subsequent escape attempt ended in a car crash, followed by a confrontation with police where he was shot and injured.

Cedar Hill police responded to a call about a person with a gun at the Methodist Family Health Center around noon. Shortly after, a gunshot was reported within the building. Arriving officers found a doctor with a gunshot wound outside the center.

Another officer spotted the suspect fleeing with a long gun and alerted fellow officers to the suspect's vehicle description. Moments later, the suspect's vehicle was involved in a collision nearby. Confronted by police and still armed, the suspect was shot by five officers.

The injured doctor is reportedly in stable condition at Methodist Dallas Medical Center. The suspect remains in critical condition. The driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash sustained minor injuries and was also taken to the hospital.

This incident comes amidst a backdrop of similar occurrences in recent years. Last fall, a shooting at Methodist Dallas Medical Center claimed the lives of a nurse and social worker. Another hospital shooting took place in Little Rock, Arkansas, around the same time. In June 2022, a gunman opened fire at a Tulsa, Oklahoma hospital, killing his surgeon and three others before taking his own life.
