Federal agents apprehended a suspected member of the Tren de Aragua (TdA) gang in Aurora, Colorado, on Saturday morning. The individual, an undocumented immigrant from Venezuela, faces local charges of property damage and domestic violence, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Denver.
The operation was a joint effort between ICE Denver and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Denver. The suspect will remain in ICE custody pending an immigration hearing. Further details about the individual's identity were not released.

This arrest follows recent developments surrounding the TdA gang and U.S. immigration policy. The Trump administration has reportedly been in discussions with El Salvador to potentially send non-Salvadoran migrants, including TdA members, to Salvadoran prisons. This comes amidst El Salvador's ongoing crackdown on gangs, which has resulted in a significant number of arrests and a decrease in violence, despite international human rights concerns.
Separately, six Americans detained in Venezuela were recently released following a meeting between a Trump administration official and Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. The meeting reportedly focused on the U.S. government's efforts to deport Venezuelan nationals who have committed crimes in the United States. Former President Trump confirmed Venezuela's agreement to accept these individuals, including TdA gang members.

ICE continues nationwide operations targeting undocumented immigrants with criminal records, aligning with a key Trump campaign promise. ICE Denver also recently announced the arrest of a Mexican national charged with assault and kidnapping, who had illegally entered the U.S. in 1998. The individual, Juan Benitez-Ortega, 48, was apprehended in Adams County, Colorado, and faces additional charges for a prior DUI conviction.

In her initial week as Homeland Security Secretary, Kristi Noem participated in an ICE operation, rescinded the Biden administration's extension of Temporary Protected Status for Venezuelans, halted funding for NGOs assisting undocumented immigrants, met with Coast Guard officials, and visited the northern border. She subsequently visited the southern border the following week.
