A 70-year-old U.S. citizen faced legal consequences after attempting to bribe a passport control officer at Munich Airport. The incident occurred during a layover on her journey from Athens to Washington. Upon reaching passport control, the woman claimed she had misplaced her passport during the Athens-Munich leg of her trip.

When the officer offered to inquire with Lufthansa about the missing document, the traveler presented a $100 bill, proposing to bypass passport control without proper identification. German authorities denied her boarding and imposed a fine exceeding $1,100 for attempted bribery. Stranded in Munich without her passport, the woman had to acquire a replacement from the U.S. Consulate.
