A significant majority of Americans express confidence in President-elect Donald Trump's capacity to manage illegal immigration, according to a recent Gallup poll. This sentiment aligns with Trump's campaign promises centered on stricter border control and a large-scale deportation initiative.
The poll reveals that 68% of Americans anticipate Trump will effectively control illegal immigration, compared to 28% who disagree. This high level of public expectation follows a period of significant migrant flows at the southern border, an issue Trump consistently emphasized during his campaign.

Trump's proposed measures include what he terms the "largest domestic deportation operation in American history," utilizing the Alien Enemies Act to expel suspected gang members, drug traffickers, and cartel members, and continuing construction of the border wall. Further strategies under consideration reportedly involve increased use of ankle monitors for individuals not detained and expanding detention facilities near major cities.
To spearhead these efforts, Trump has appointed former acting ICE Director Tom Homan as border czar and nominated South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem for Homeland Security Secretary.

Beyond immigration, the Gallup poll also gauged public confidence in Trump's ability to address other key areas. A majority believe he will succeed in reducing unemployment (60%), enhancing national security against terrorism (60%), bolstering the economy (58%), and avoiding international conflicts (55%). Other areas where respondents expressed optimism include tax cuts, crime reduction, and improving America's global standing.
However, public confidence is lower regarding Trump's potential impact on healthcare (40%), environmental protection (35%), and bridging political divides (33%).
A separate Fox News poll conducted in December indicates a generally positive public sentiment towards the incoming administration, with many expressing hope, relief, and excitement. The same poll highlighted the economy as the most pressing issue for voters, followed by immigration and border security.
