Clinton Promotes 'But Her Emails' Merchandise After Trump Indictment

Created: JANUARY 24, 2025

Following the federal indictment of former President Donald Trump on charges related to mishandling classified documents, Hillary Clinton, his 2016 presidential rival, promoted merchandise bearing the slogan "BUT HER EMAILS." This phrase alludes to the controversy surrounding Clinton's use of a private email server during her tenure as Secretary of State, a matter that was investigated by the FBI but did not result in charges.

Clinton's tweet promoting the merchandise linked to her organization, Onward Together, which describes itself as promoting progressive values. The "BUT HER EMAILS" merchandise includes items like mugs, t-shirts, and hats. The tweet was met with criticism from some Twitter users who pointed out the perceived hypocrisy of Clinton capitalizing on a situation similar to the one she faced.

Trump's indictment involves seven counts, including obstruction of justice, conspiracy, and illegal retention of classified materials. This is his second indictment this year, the first being related to felony charges of falsifying business records in Manhattan. The charges stem from an investigation by Special Counsel Jack Smith into documents retrieved from Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence. These documents, originally identified by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), allegedly contained classified national security information and correspondence with foreign leaders. The FBI's subsequent search reportedly uncovered items ranging from letters from former President Barack Obama and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to a birthday dinner menu.

The investigation centers around potential violations of federal laws, including those related to gathering, transmitting, or losing defense information under the Espionage Act, as well as concealment, removal, or mutilation of documents, and the destruction, alteration, or falsification of records in federal investigations.
