Coastal Shift: CAA Rebrands to Reflect Expansion Across Atlantic Coast

Created: JANUARY 24, 2025

The former Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) has officially rebranded as the Coastal Athletic Association, maintaining the familiar CAA abbreviation and logo. This change reflects the conference's significant growth, with member institutions now stretching from Massachusetts down to South Carolina across nine states along the Atlantic seaboard.

Commissioner Joe D’Antonio emphasized that the new name embodies the conference's continued unity and shared pursuit of excellence. The expansion has brought five new members into the fold over the past two years, bringing the total to a historic high of 14 institutions. Hampton, Monmouth, North Carolina A&T, and Stony Brook joined in 2022-23, followed by Campbell this year. This growth offsets the departure of James Madison University, which moved to the Sun Belt Conference in 2022.

The football conference, now the Coastal Athletic Association Football Conference (still referred to as the CAA Football Conference), expands the league's reach further with 15 members in 10 states from Maine to North Carolina. This group includes Albany, Maine-Orono, New Hampshire, Richmond, Villanova, Delaware, Elon, Hampton, Monmouth, Rhode Island, Stony Brook, Towson, and William & Mary.
