Amidst ongoing national discussions surrounding immigration enforcement, Denver Councilwoman Stacie Gilmore has mobilized a network of volunteers to monitor and report ICE activities. This action follows a series of events, including a viral video allegedly depicting Venezuelan gang members in Aurora and President Trump's campaign promise of "Operation Aurora" to address such concerns.
Gilmore leveraged social media platforms to inform Colorado residents of their right to report ICE activity, providing contact information for a network of over 600 volunteers available 24/7. She offered detailed instructions on documenting these activities, including capturing photos and videos, recording the time, date, and location, and noting the agencies involved.

This isn't Gilmore's first effort to support undocumented residents. She has previously shared resources regarding legal aid, job opportunities, and training programs, along with information on their rights. However, her stance on immigration has sparked controversy among Colorado residents, particularly Republicans who have criticized Denver Mayor Mike Johnston's commitment to obstructing ICE deportations. Reports indicate that Denver has allocated over $356 million in taxpayer funds towards migrant services.

Councilman Roger Hudson, representing a town south of Denver, expressed his disapproval of the Democrats' handling of the situation, highlighting the strain on city resources due to the influx of over 45,000 migrants since 2022. He pointed to the neglect of public spaces, closed recreation centers, and the escalating homeless problem as evidence of the city's struggles.
