Drug Cartel Violence Erupts in Toluca, Mexico, with Gruesome Discoveries

Created: JANUARY 27, 2025

In a chilling display of violence, suspected drug cartel activity rocked Toluca, Mexico, on Wednesday. Body parts, including a severed leg hung from a pedestrian bridge, were discovered throughout the city, accompanied by ominous signs attributed to the Familia Michoacana cartel.

The initial gruesome find involved a severed leg displayed on a bridge near the city center, with the torso discovered below on the street. Handwritten messages signed by the Familia Michoacana were found at the scene. Later, additional body parts, believed to belong to the same victim (a man estimated to be between 35 and 40 years old), were located in another neighborhood, also with cartel signs.

The wave of violence continued with the discovery of a dismembered body in a neighborhood on Toluca's east side, marked by a similar sign. Authorities also investigated a burning car containing body parts found in a northern industrial area, working to determine if they were connected to the second dismembered body.

Toluca's mayor, Raymundo Martínez Carbajal, called for unity and calm in the face of escalating crime, stating, "The issue of crime brings us all together, and we all have to fight it." This incident follows threatening banners signed by the Familia Michoacana appearing in a Toluca suburb last week.

The Familia Michoacana, originally from Michoacan state, has gained notoriety for its brutal tactics, including ambushes targeting both police and civilians. While largely driven out of their home state, the cartel has established a presence in the State of Mexico and Guerrero, raising concerns about their growing influence in the region.
