Filmmaker Jeff Baena, Husband of Aubrey Plaza, Dies at 47

Filmmaker and writer Jeff Baena has passed away at the age of 47. The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed responding to a call at a residence where Baena was pronounced dead on Friday, January 3rd. The Los Angeles Medical Examiner's Office is currently investigating the cause of death, with a full report pending.

Baena, known for his work on films like "Horse Girl," which he co-wrote with and was starred in by Alison Brie, was married to actress Aubrey Plaza. A representative for Plaza released a statement to Deadline requesting privacy for the grieving family.

Born in Miami in 1977, Baena studied film at New York University before moving to Los Angeles. He co-wrote the 2004 film "I Heart Huckabees" and made his directorial debut with the 2014 zombie comedy "Life After Beth," starring Plaza. He also created the Showtime anthology series "Cinema Toast" in 2021, which marked Plaza’s directorial debut.
