Former New Hampshire State Representative Faces Child Sexual Abuse Image Charges

Created: JANUARY 18, 2025

Stacie-Marie Laughton, a former Democratic state representative from New Hampshire, has been arrested and charged with distributing sexually explicit images of children. Laughton, who identifies as transgender, has a history of legal troubles and prior convictions.

Initially elected in 2012, Laughton was unable to assume office due to being on probation for a 2008 credit card fraud conviction. Subsequent arrests include a 2015 bomb threat against Southern New Hampshire Medical Center and a 2021 charge related to misuse of the state's 911 texting system. Despite being elected again in 2022, Laughton was again prevented from serving due to stalking charges.

The recent charges stem from an investigation that began on Tuesday, June 27th, 2023. Nashua Police Department confirmed that individuals reported Laughton for distributing the explicit images, leading detectives to obtain and execute an arrest warrant. Laughton is expected to be arraigned in Hillsborough County Superior Court-South.

Laughton's criminal record dates back to 2002 and includes arrests for domestic violence, criminal mischief, and sexual assault. In the past, Laughton has attributed criminal behavior to mental illness, citing a lack of treatment and medication as contributing factors in a previous incident involving a bomb threat.
