A former United States Postal Service employee, Nakedra Shannon, has been sentenced to five years in prison for her role in a massive check theft scheme. Two accomplices, Desiray Carter and Donell Gardner, received sentences of 54 months each. The trio orchestrated the theft of checks totaling over $24 million.
Shannon, who worked as a mail processing clerk at a Charlotte distribution center, pilfered incoming and outgoing mail between April and July 2023. She collaborated with Carter and Gardner, who then sold the stolen checks, including using the Telegram channel "OG Glass House" as a marketplace for their illicit goods.

The stolen checks amounted to over $24 million, with more than $12 million traced to sales on the Telegram channel and over $8 million consisting of U.S. Treasury checks. The perpetrators pocketed hundreds of thousands of dollars in profits from their criminal enterprise.

All three individuals pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit financial institution fraud and theft of government property. They have been ordered to jointly and severally pay restitution in the amount of $113,333.87.

The U.S. Attorney's office expressed gratitude to the various agencies involved in the investigation, including the U.S. Postal Service’s Office of the Inspector General, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, IRS-Criminal Investigation, the U.S. Department of Treasury Bureau of the Fiscal Service, and the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department.
