Authorities have uncovered a staggering cache of over 200 firearms in the Massapequa Park home of Rex Heuermann, the suspect in the Gilgo Beach murders. Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison, in an interview with Fox News, expressed serious concerns about this arsenal, stating that investigations are underway to determine the legality and registration status of the weapons.
Heuermann, a 59-year-old Manhattan architect, was apprehended last Thursday in connection with the deaths of sex workers Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, and Amber Costello. Their remains were discovered along Gilgo Beach in 2010. Prosecutors have also identified Heuermann as the prime suspect in the murder of a fourth victim, Maureen Brainard-Barnes.

Commissioner Harrison, who spearheaded the reopening of this chilling cold case, provided details about the investigation and Heuermann's arrest, which took place near his Midtown Manhattan office. A crucial piece of evidence linking Heuermann to the crimes was a Chevy Avalanche, a vehicle a witness reported seeing at Costello's residence. Further investigations into Heuermann's background, including phone records, credit card usage, and family life, solidified their suspicion.

Despite growing certainty about Heuermann's involvement, authorities proceeded cautiously to avoid alerting him to their surveillance, recognizing the risk of flight. Commissioner Harrison believes there may be additional victims and encourages anyone with relevant information to contact authorities. Describing the 6-foot-6, 275-pound Heuermann as an "ogre," Harrison expressed relief at his apprehension.

The investigation continues, and authorities are actively pursuing all leads in this complex and disturbing case.
