Honda Aircraft Co. is poised to significantly expand its presence in central North Carolina with the development and production of a new, longer-range light jet, the HondaJet 2600. This exciting development is projected to create 280 new jobs, according to a recent announcement from Governor Roy Cooper's office.
The company unveiled the HondaJet 2600 concept two years ago and confirmed last month its intention to bring this innovative aircraft to the commercial market. Honda Aircraft touts the 2600 model as the first light jet capable of transcontinental flight across the United States, accommodating up to eleven passengers.
This production decision translates to a $56 million investment in Guilford County, where Honda Aircraft is headquartered at Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro. The new positions are expected to offer competitive salaries averaging over $88,700, significantly higher than the county's average wage.

CEO Hideto Yamasaki expressed enthusiasm about North Carolina serving as the production hub for this groundbreaking aircraft, emphasizing the company's commitment to advancing air travel. The project will involve establishing new production lines specifically for the HondaJet 2600 and will also encompass substantial research and development efforts.
Honda Aircraft's existing facility at the airport represents an investment exceeding $245 million, and the company currently employs over 800 individuals in Guilford County, both full-time and contract workers. The company's current product line includes the smaller HondaJet Elite model.
To support this expansion, Honda Aircraft is eligible for up to $3.4 million in performance-based incentives from the state over 12 years through the Job Development Investment Grant program. This award is contingent on the company meeting its investment and job creation targets. According to official documentation, Greensboro competed with Albertville, Alabama, for this project.
