The Charlotte Hornets found themselves in hot water this week following an on-court incident during their Monday night game against the Philadelphia 76ers. A young fan participating in a holiday-themed skit seemingly had his promised PlayStation 5 gift taken back after initially receiving it on the court.

The incident unfolded when the fan's letter to Santa, requesting a PS5, was read aloud. The Hornets' mascot presented the fan with what appeared to be the gaming console. However, social media posts later alleged that the gift was retrieved backstage, and the young fan was given a jersey instead.

The ensuing online backlash prompted a swift apology from the Hornets organization. In a statement, the team admitted to "bad decision making and poor communication" during the skit, acknowledging they "turned the ball over." They emphasized their commitment to rectifying the situation and "exceeding expectations" for the affected family.
