Hunter Biden's attorney, Abbe Lowell, launched a strong defense of his client on Friday, accusing members of Congress of being fixated on attacking the Biden family and disregarding established procedures. Lowell's 10-page letter to Rep. Jason Smith, Chairman of the House Committee on Ways and Means, challenges the authenticity of purported WhatsApp messages involving Hunter Biden that were circulated by Republicans.
Lowell questioned the veracity of the alleged messages, highlighting discrepancies that suggest manipulation. He pointed out that the messages appeared in blue bubbles, whereas WhatsApp messages typically appear in green. Additionally, he noted the presence of a superimposed Chinese flag in one of the contact IDs. Lowell emphasized that numerous media reports have already raised concerns about the potential alteration of data supposedly originating from Hunter Biden's devices.

The alleged messages purportedly show Hunter Biden invoking his father, then-Vice President Joe Biden's presence during business dealings. An IRS whistleblower involved in Hunter Biden's tax evasion case claims these messages demonstrate an attempt to exert pressure on a Chinese business partner. However, Lowell dismissed these screen grabs as fabricated and riddled with inconsistencies.

Lowell's letter concludes by accusing Smith of promoting a false political narrative and expressing hope that the public will recognize the flawed methods employed. The Ways and Means Committee responded by accusing Lowell of attempting to stifle the investigation with a retaliatory tone. They defended the whistleblowers who have come forward with allegations of misconduct and preferential treatment, stating they now face attacks from Hunter Biden's legal team.

The legal team representing IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley, who testified before the Ways and Means Committee last month, also criticized Lowell's letter. They pointed to previous instances where Biden family lawyers allegedly threatened prosecutors, suggesting a pattern of intimidation. This latest attempt to intimidate their client and the oversight authorities investigating the politicization of the case comes as no surprise, they stated.
