Houston Texans wide receiver Tank Dell suffered a season-ending knee injury during their game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Head Coach DeMeco Ryans confirmed the severity of the injury, revealing Dell tore his ACL and dislocated his kneecap. This marks the second consecutive season Dell's year has been cut short due to injury; he suffered a broken fibula in Week 13 of the previous season.
The injury occurred during a remarkable 30-yard touchdown reception. Dell made the catch in the end zone but collided with teammate Jared Wayne as he landed, immediately clutching his knee. Teammates were visibly distressed as Dell was taken off the field on a stretcher, subsequently transported to a local hospital, and then flown back to Houston.
Quarterback C.J. Stroud spoke about the emotional impact of witnessing Dell's injury and addressed criticism he received for openly displaying his feelings. Stroud emphasized the importance of acknowledging emotions and rejecting the societal pressure to always appear stoic. He believes it's crucial for young people to see vulnerability in athletes and recognize the human aspect of such situations.
Dell's 2024 season concludes with 51 receptions, 667 receiving yards, and three touchdowns.
