It appears James Harden's tenure with the Philadelphia 76ers is drawing to a close. After exercising his $35.6 million player option, Harden and the 76ers are actively pursuing trade options, according to various reports. The Los Angeles Clippers and New York Knicks are anticipated to be potential landing spots for the veteran guard.

Philadelphia acquired Harden via trade during the 2021-22 season, sending Ben Simmons to the Brooklyn Nets. The Sixers hoped Harden would be the ideal complement to Joel Embiid, forming a formidable duo for years to come. Over two seasons in Philadelphia, Harden averaged 21.0 points, 10.6 assists, and 6.4 rebounds per game playing alongside Embiid, who earned the NBA MVP award this past season.

However, the 76ers fell short of expectations, losing to the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference semifinals for the 22nd straight season without reaching the Conference Finals. Following the disappointing playoff exit, the 76ers dismissed head coach Doc Rivers after three seasons. Nick Nurse, a championship-winning coach, was subsequently hired and expressed his desire for Harden to remain with the team.

Despite Nurse's wishes, Harden appears set on a change of scenery. The 33-year-old guard, heading into his 15th NBA season, will likely be playing for a new team in the upcoming year.
