Manoah Set to Rejoin Blue Jays Rotation After Minor League Stint

Created: JANUARY 27, 2025

After a period of refinement in the minor leagues, Alek Manoah is poised to rejoin the Toronto Blue Jays' starting rotation. Manager John Schneider confirmed that Manoah is slated to take the mound on Friday against the Detroit Tigers, prompting a one-day postponement for All-Star Kevin Gausman's scheduled start.

Last year's All-Star and AL Cy Young Award finalist, Manoah has struggled this season, posting a 1-7 record and a 6.36 ERA through 13 starts. This starkly contrasts with his impressive 16-7 record and 2.24 ERA from the previous season. Following a particularly rough outing against the Houston Astros where he couldn't finish the first inning, the 25-year-old was optioned to the Blue Jays' Florida Complex League on June 6th.

Schneider indicated that the team had specific criteria for Manoah's return, focusing on mechanical adjustments and comparing his current form to his performance last year. A strong outing on Sunday with Double-A New Hampshire, where he struck out 10 and allowed only one run over five innings against Portland, solidified the decision. Manoah is expected back with the team on Wednesday.
