Following accusations of sexual assault after Game 4 of the NBA Finals in Miami, Conor McGregor publicly thanked his supporters over the weekend. While in New York City with his fiancée, Dee Devlin, and their children, McGregor responded to a TMZ Sports inquiry about his message to fans with a simple, "Thank you so much for the support, appreciate the support."
The allegations against McGregor stem from an incident on the same night he was involved in an altercation with the Miami Heat mascot, Burnie. The accuser's attorney, Ariel Mitchell, asserts that her client filed a report with Miami police and submitted the clothing worn that evening. Mitchell's account, as reported by the New York Post, alleges that security personnel separated the woman from her companions and directed her to a bathroom where McGregor was allegedly waiting. A video subsequently emerged depicting McGregor and the accuser at a club after the game, showing them briefly conversing before McGregor departs.
Mitchell characterized the interaction in the video as "visibly awkwardly interacting with each other" to TMZ Sports. McGregor has consistently denied the allegations. His attorney, Barbara Llanes, issued a statement upon the allegations surfacing, declaring, "Mr. McGregor will not be intimidated." Regarding the video from the club, Llanes stated, "While the claimant’s story has changed yet again, our account of the evening has never changed. This video only reinforces our position. We look forward to the swift conclusion of the investigation."
Another TMZ video seemingly shows McGregor leading the woman to the bathroom by the hand, with several individuals present near the closed door. Mitchell, who claims the two were together at a club inside the arena prior to the alleged bathroom incident, stated her client believed she was exiting the arena when someone informed her that McGregor had requested her presence. Upon viewing the video, Mitchell said her client didn't recall who led her to the restroom.
Llanes responded to the changing narrative, stating, "After the video was released by TMZ, the claimant’s lawyer now has changed her story. Mr. McGregor welcomes the investigation, which he firmly believes will show the claims against him are false. After not responding to the demand for money made by claimant’s counsel, she turned to the media to apply pressure. This is no more than a shakedown." Mitchell refuted these claims to Fox News Digital, denying any "shakedown" or that the accusations are "false." She emphasized the video's depiction of McGregor leading a woman other than his pregnant fiancée into a bathroom.
Both the Miami Heat and the NBA are aware of the allegations, and the Miami police confirmed to ESPN that an investigation is underway following the filing of a report.
