Golf superstar Rory McIlroy achieved a career milestone during the first round of the Travelers Championship, sinking his first-ever hole-in-one on the PGA Tour. The four-time major champion accomplished the feat on the 214-yard, par-3 eighth hole at TPC River Highlands, thrilling the crowd with a perfectly struck 5-iron.

McIlroy described the shot as his "best of the day," expressing his excitement about finally achieving a PGA Tour ace after previously recording one on the DP World Tour. Despite the memorable shot, McIlroy's round was a mixed bag, finishing with a 2-under 68 after carding five birdies and five bogeys. He acknowledged the inconsistency, stating his disappointment with letting the round slip away.

While McIlroy's ace generated significant buzz, Denny McCarthy emerged as the first-round leader with an impressive 10-under 60. McCarthy expressed his positive mindset entering the day, noting that "everything just kind of clicked."

The second round of the Travelers Championship is currently in progress at TPC River Highlands.
