Pope Francis's health has shown positive signs as he continues to recover from pneumonia. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni visited the pontiff at Rome's Gemelli hospital, reporting that he was in good spirits and his characteristic humor remained intact. Meloni spent approximately 20 minutes with the Pope, conveying well wishes from the Italian government and its people. She described a lighthearted exchange, emphasizing the Pope's undiminished wit.

Meloni's visit marks the first from someone outside the Pope's medical team and close staff since his hospitalization. The Vatican has confirmed a slight improvement in his condition, particularly regarding inflammatory markers. Following breakfast and a review of the day's news, the Pope engaged in work-related activities with his aides and received communion before lunch.

The Pope's vicar for Rome called for an hour of silent prayer for Francis before evening vespers. Supporters at the hospital also offered their prayers and lit candles. Sister Charlene, a nun visiting from Singapore, expressed the widespread concern for the Pope's health and the importance of continued prayer.

This is not the Pope's first health challenge. He underwent a partial lung removal due to pleurisy at age 21 and has faced various health issues in recent years, including surgeries in 2021 and 2023, as well as ongoing knee problems requiring the use of a wheelchair.
