A spectator's mishap caused a dramatic crash during the 15th stage of the Tour de France on Sunday. American cyclist Sepp Kuss and several others went down about 52 kilometers into the race when a fan, reportedly holding a cellphone, leaned into the road and made contact with Kuss.

Following the incident, Kuss explained that while such incidents are unfortunate, the Tour's immense popularity and crowds can create unpredictable situations. He noted the spectator was likely trying to take a selfie in a narrowed section of the course where the peloton was slowing down.

Despite the disruption, Jonas Vingegaard retained the yellow jersey, while Wout Poels secured the stage victory. Vingegaard appealed to fans to be mindful of the cyclists, urging them to enjoy the race without encroaching on the road or interfering with the riders. The Cofidis team echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of spectator safety for both the riders and the fans themselves.

Race organizers also issued a call for increased vigilance from spectators following the incident.
