Tech Billionaire Reid Hoffman's Political Donations Spark Controversy Amid Epstein Ties

Created: JANUARY 24, 2025

LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman's recent campaign contributions have drawn scrutiny due to his past association with Jeffrey Epstein. Hoffman donated the maximum allowable amount to several vulnerable Democratic Senate candidates, including Jon Tester of Montana, Jacky Rosen of Nevada, and Bob Casey of Pennsylvania. These donations come after reports of Hoffman's visit to Epstein's private island and planned trips with the disgraced financier.

Hoffman also contributed to the Biden Victory Fund and the campaign of California Democrat Will Rollins. His substantial donation to the Biden Victory Fund occurred shortly before President Biden attended a fundraiser hosted by Hoffman.

Hoffman has expressed regret for his association with Epstein, acknowledging that it helped rehabilitate the late financier's image. He stated that his last interaction with Epstein was in 2015, which involved inviting Epstein to a dinner with tech leaders. In the same year, Hoffman attended a White House state dinner hosted by then-Vice President Biden.

This is not Hoffman's first involvement in controversial political activities. In 2018, he apologized for funding a group that spread disinformation during the Alabama Senate race. Hoffman has been a significant donor to Biden, contributing substantially to the 2020 presidential campaign. White House visitor logs show Hoffman visited the White House multiple times in the past year, including meetings with various advisors and a state dinner. The campaigns for the Senate candidates and Hoffman have not commented on the donations.
