Teenager Accused of Murdering Ex-Girlfriend in Greeley, Colorado

A 16-year-old boy in Greeley, Colorado, stands accused of fatally shooting his 15-year-old ex-girlfriend while her younger brother listened in terror from a nearby room. The incident, which occurred on June 16, 2023, has left the community reeling.

Jovanni Sirio-Cardona allegedly shot Lily Silva-Lopez seven times after entering her bedroom through a window. The couple had dated for approximately six months before Silva-Lopez ended the relationship four weeks prior to the tragic event. Silva-Lopez's younger brother, who was present in the home at the time, bravely attempted to call 911 after hearing the gunshots. He witnessed the horrific scene of his sister's lifeless body with Sirio-Cardona standing over her, a gun in his hand.

According to reports, Sirio-Cardona had exhibited increasingly controlling and abusive behavior following the breakup. Weeks before the shooting, he allegedly threatened Silva-Lopez with a gun, forcing her to declare her love for him. Just six days prior to the fatal incident, a domestic violence complaint was filed alleging that Sirio-Cardona had physically assaulted Silva-Lopez, punching her in the face and injuring her arm.

After the shooting, Sirio-Cardona reportedly went to his grandmother's house with a friend. When police arrived, he allegedly confessed to the crime, stating he "did what he had to do." A stray bullet from the shooting narrowly missed a neighbor in a nearby trailer.

Sirio-Cardona is being charged as an adult and faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder, second-degree murder, first-degree burglary, aggravated robbery, and possession of a handgun by a juvenile. He is currently being held on a $2 million bond and is scheduled to appear in court on August 3.
