The Rosary's Resurgence: How a Faith-Based Podcast Topped the Charts

Created: JANUARY 26, 2025

In an unexpected turn of events, a faith-focused podcast has climbed to the top of the Apple Podcast charts, surpassing popular shows hosted by prominent figures like Joe Rogan and Alex Cooper. "The Rosary in a Year (with Fr. Mark-Mary Ames, CFR)" secured the number one spot for three consecutive days at the start of 2025 before settling at number two.

This achievement is particularly noteworthy given the current religious landscape. While Bible sales are experiencing a surge, studies suggest a decline in traditional religiosity. Father Mark-Mary Ames, the podcast's host, attributes the success to divine intervention. He is the director of communications and Priestly Studies for the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal (CFR), an order dedicated to following Jesus Christ and St. Francis of Assisi.

Father Ames, originally from a well-off California family, was inspired by Mother Teresa to abandon a life of privilege and dedicate himself to serving others. He felt a strong calling to join the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal after learning about their commitment to serving the poor. He describes this decision as a deeply fulfilling experience, emphasizing that God has abundantly rewarded his generosity.

While acknowledging the podcast's popularity, Father Ames emphasizes that it isn't his proudest achievement. He sees the rosary as a powerful tool for spiritual growth, referring to it as "the great remedy for our time." He believes God is working through Mary in a special way, and the rosary acts as a key to unlocking grace.

He recognizes that the rosary can seem complex or daunting, but he believes it's a perfectly crafted prayer, developed over centuries. He compares praying the rosary to physical therapy for the soul, helping individuals improve their focus and concentration, which he considers essential for a deeper connection with God. He also highlights the flexibility of the rosary, noting that it allows for personalization within the devotional practice.

Even Father Ames admits to occasionally losing focus while praying the rosary, emphasizing that this is a common experience and shouldn't discourage anyone. His desire to deepen his own prayer life motivated him to host the podcast. He believes that if God intends for the podcast to reach a wide audience, then it's God's will, and he's grateful for the opportunity to help others connect with their faith. However, he humbly acknowledges that many unsung heroes are performing far more beautiful and impactful acts of service.
