Former President Trump has selected retired Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg to fill a newly established role as special envoy, tasked with finding a resolution to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. This appointment, reported by Reuters, marks a significant step in Trump's approach to foreign policy should he return to the presidency.
Kellogg, who previously served as national security advisor to former Vice President Mike Pence, reportedly presented Trump with a detailed strategy for ending the war. This plan, partially outlined in a research paper co-authored by Kellogg in April, suggests leveraging military aid provided to Ukraine as a bargaining chip in armistice negotiations with Russia.
Trump announced the appointment on Truth Social, emphasizing Kellogg's extensive military and business experience, as well as his prior service in national security roles during Trump's first term. Trump expressed confidence in Kellogg's ability to achieve "peace through strength" and enhance global security.
Currently, Kellogg serves as co-chair of the Center for American Security at the America First Policy Institute (AFPI). This organization is prominently led by several individuals nominated for positions within a potential second Trump administration, including Linda McMahon for Education Secretary and Brooke Rollins for Agriculture Secretary.
