Trump Seeks Answers on Assassination Attempts, Citing Withheld Information

Created: JANUARY 20, 2025

Former President Donald Trump has publicly stated his demand for full transparency from the Secret Service regarding two assassination attempts against him during the 2024 presidential campaign. He expressed his desire to understand the circumstances surrounding both incidents, particularly questioning the possession of six cell phones by one suspect and the presence of foreign applications on another's device, according to a New York Post report.

Trump alleges that the Secret Service withheld information due to President Biden's influence, stating his entitlement to the information and demanding an end to the alleged obstruction. He specifically referenced the July incident in Butler, Pennsylvania, where he was shot in the ear by 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks. Crooks was subsequently killed by the Secret Service after fatally shooting a rally attendee and injuring two others.

Trump also brought attention to the September incident involving 59-year-old Ryan Routh, who allegedly lay in wait near Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach with a rifle. A Secret Service agent reportedly observed Routh aiming the weapon through a fence and subsequently fired at him. Routh fled but was apprehended later that day. He has pleaded not guilty to multiple charges, including attempted assassination of a presidential candidate and assault on a federal officer. Routh’s trial is set for September 8, 2025. Reports indicate six cell phones were discovered in Routh’s vehicle following his arrest.

Further details have emerged regarding Crooks’s digital footprint. Rep. Mike Waltz (R-Fla.), a member of a congressional task force investigating the assassination attempt, revealed that Crooks maintained encrypted messaging accounts on various platforms based in Belgium, New Zealand, and Germany. The White House has not yet responded to requests for comment on Trump’s allegations.
