President-elect Donald Trump is calling on Congressional Republicans to swiftly deliver a comprehensive bill addressing key priorities upon his inauguration. Trump emphasized border security, American energy independence, and an enhanced version of his previous tax cuts, specifically mentioning the elimination of taxes on tips, in a post on Truth Social.

He suggested tariffs as a means to offset these cuts and address perceived disadvantages the U.S. has faced in international trade. Trump stressed the importance of Republican unity and urged Congress to send the bill to his desk for signature as quickly as possible.

House Speaker Mike Johnson, in a recent interview, indicated that Trump prefers a single, comprehensive bill, describing it as a crucial measure to address national challenges, including the debt ceiling. Johnson suggested the bill could be voted on in the House as early as April 3rd, with the goal of reaching Trump's desk by the end of April or Memorial Day at the latest.

Johnson recently secured his position as House Speaker with near-unanimous Republican support, following Trump's endorsement. All House Republicans, except for Rep. Thomas Massie, ultimately voted for Johnson after two initially hesitant members changed their votes.

Rep. Chip Roy highlighted potential challenges in the Senate regarding spending cuts and government reduction, emphasizing the need for public pressure. He referenced the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), an external initiative advocating for reduced government spending, led by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy.
