Just days after gracing the "Barbie" premiere, renowned design expert Ty Pennington, 58, found himself in an intensive care unit battling a severe health crisis. Pennington took to Instagram to share his frightening experience, revealing he was rushed to a Denver hospital and intubated due to a throat abscess that had dangerously obstructed his airway.

The former "Trading Spaces" star described waking up at 4 a.m. struggling to breathe. What he initially thought was a persistent sore throat turned out to be a life-threatening abscess. Following surgery on Wednesday, Pennington was thankfully released from the ICU on Thursday afternoon. He expressed gratitude to the hospital staff and urged his followers to heed their bodies' warnings.

Pennington's representative confirmed his recovery, stating he's feeling well and will take ten days to recuperate before returning to his HGTV projects. The designer shared photos documenting his ordeal, including a thumbs-up from his hospital bed, an image of himself intubated, and a final shot showing him relaxing in a chair, signaling his progress.

The health scare came shortly after Pennington attended the "Barbie" premiere. He's set to appear in the upcoming "Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge" on HGTV, competing with other teams to transform a Southern California home into a real-life Barbie Dreamhouse.

Pennington's career took off with "Trading Spaces" in 2000, followed by hosting "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" from 2004-2012. He currently hosts "Rock the Block" and "Battle on the Beach" on HGTV. Pennington married Kellee Merrell in 2021.
