Tyreek Hill Hints at Departure from Dolphins After Missing Playoffs

Created: JANUARY 26, 2025

Following the Miami Dolphins' loss to the New York Jets, which solidified their absence from the 2024 playoffs, wide receiver Tyreek Hill expressed discontent with his current situation, hinting at a potential departure from the team. This marks the first time in Hill's career that he will not be competing for the Lombardi Trophy.

In a post-game interview, Hill candidly stated, "I just got to do what's best for me and my family. If that's here or elsewhere, I'm going to create that opportunity for myself." He further emphasized his competitive drive, stating, "I'm opening the door. I'm out, bro. It was great playing here, but ultimately, I have to prioritize my career because I'm too competitive to just be on the sidelines."

Hill reiterated his sentiments on social media, expressing gratitude towards the Dolphins' fanbase while hinting at a potential move. This comes after Hill signed a three-year, $90 million contract extension with the Dolphins in August, with $65 million guaranteed. He is currently under contract for two more seasons, with substantial cap hits of $27.7 million and $51.9 million, respectively.

The 2024 season has been Hill's least productive with the Dolphins. His 939 receiving yards and six touchdowns are a significant drop from his performance in 2023 when he led the league with 1,799 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns. The team's quarterback instability, with Tua Tagovailoa experiencing another concussion, likely contributed to Hill's decreased production.

While Hill's talent would undoubtedly make him a sought-after player in the trade market, the Dolphins' course of action remains uncertain. Whether Hill's comments are a genuine desire to leave or simply a reaction to missing the playoffs is yet to be seen. The Dolphins face the challenge of addressing a potentially unhappy star player during the offseason, adding another layer of complexity to their post-season woes.

Despite the team's disappointing season, Dolphins owner Steve Ross expressed confidence in general manager Chris Grier and head coach Mike McDaniel, assuring their job security going into the 2025 offseason.
