A 20-year-old woman, Sophia Haley Marks, has been arrested and charged with narcotics distribution in relation to the death of Leandro De Niro Rodriguez, Robert De Niro's 19-year-old grandson. Rodriguez was found deceased in his Manhattan apartment on July 2nd, and the cause is suspected to be a fentanyl overdose.

Marks is accused of selling counterfeit oxycodone pills laced with fentanyl to Rodriguez on three separate occasions. Court documents allege that on July 1st, Marks sold Rodriguez three fentanyl-laced oxycodone pills and two alprazolam tablets, reportedly warning him of the pills' potency. Following Rodriguez's death, Marks allegedly texted him asking if he was okay, but received no response. Furthermore, Marks is alleged to have sold 50 fentanyl-laced oxycodone pills to an undercover officer in two separate transactions later that month.

While the city medical examiner has not yet released an official cause of death for Rodriguez, his mother publicly attributed his passing to fentanyl-laced pills on social media shortly after his death. She expressed outrage towards those involved in the sale of such dangerous substances.
