Created: JANUARY 26, 2025

Two New York Yankees fans involved in a controversial incident with Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts during Game 4 of the 2024 World Series have been banned indefinitely from all Major League Baseball stadiums. The incident occurred in the first inning when Betts attempted a catch in foul territory. Fans Austin Capobianco and John P. Hansen interfered with the play, with one attempting to pull Betts' glove off his hand while another held his wrists. The ball eventually came loose.

Initially, the fans were escorted out but allowed to return the next night. The Yankees later reversed this decision, donating the tickets to a child with cancer and their family. Betts, who remained relatively quiet about the situation after Game 4, expressed his frustration after the Dodgers clinched the World Series title in Game 5, stating it was one of the few times he'd ever felt like fighting someone. Capobianco later defended his actions, claiming he was merely trying to help the Yankees. The fans involved were reportedly sitting in the seats of a long-time season ticket holder, whose privileges remain unaffected.
