Created: JANUARY 27, 2025

With Super Bowl LIX approaching, major airlines like Southwest and Delta have added flights to New Orleans, but the cost of air travel and accommodations is surging. Southwest introduced 31 new flights from Kansas City and Philadelphia, the homes of the competing Chiefs and Eagles. Prices fluctuate based on travel dates, with some nonstop and business class options reaching over $800 for Saturday arrivals.

Delta Air Lines has also boosted flight capacity to accommodate over 1,300 additional passengers, with first-class fares exceeding $4,000. Economy fares range from $400 to upwards of $700, depending on the day of travel. Both airlines anticipate a significant drop in prices, potentially 50% or more, after the game.

For those aiming to arrive just in time for kickoff on Super Bowl Sunday, flights from Kansas City to New Orleans are priced between $300 and nearly $700. Last year, Southwest added hundreds of extra flights for major events like the Kentucky Derby and college football games, leveraging historical data to predict demand. This year, Southwest incorporated playful flight numbers referencing key players from both teams.

United and American Airlines have followed suit, adding their own extra flights with special touches for Chiefs and Eagles fans. The increased demand has also impacted hotel prices, with two-night stays during Super Bowl weekend ranging from $550 to over $4,700. Many hotels are already fully booked for the weekend. For a premium experience, official hospitality packages, including game tickets and pregame events, are available through On Location, the NFL's official hospitality provider, with some options starting at $7,005 per person.
