Inspired by the romantic comedy "The Wedding Singer," a Pennsylvania CEO orchestrated a memorable mid-flight proposal for his girlfriend. Sam Riber, 34, surprised Lissy Alden, 37, during a Christmas Eve flight from North Carolina to Mexico City for Alden's birthday.
The couple, who met at a Shabbat dinner early last year, quickly formed a strong connection. Riber, a film enthusiast, devised a plan incorporating elements from the 1998 movie, which stars Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. He secretly brought a prop guitar onto the plane and coordinated with the flight attendants to ensure a smooth execution of his plan.

Mid-flight, Riber serenaded Alden with "Grow Old With You," the same song Sandler's character sings during his proposal in the film. Alden, initially believing the upgraded seats to first class were her birthday surprise, was overwhelmed with joy when Riber knelt down and proposed. She happily accepted.

Riber expressed gratitude for the flight attendants' assistance, particularly Teri Ramirez, who helped with the onboard announcement system. He revealed that they used the code word "juice" to signal when he should retrieve the hidden guitar. Alden, while unaware of the exact timing of the proposal, shared that they had discussed their future together, making the moment both surprising and heartwarming.

Riber recounted how he strategically introduced Alden to "The Wedding Singer" through a casual movie night, ensuring she enjoyed the film before incorporating it into his proposal plan. The couple often quote and reenact movie scenes, adding a playful element to their relationship.

Alden described the mid-flight proposal as a "peak life moment." This unique and romantic gesture reflects the couple's shared love for film and their commitment to creating lasting memories together.
