Despite Deion Sanders downplaying rumors of him coaching the Dallas Cowboys, his former teammate Daryl Johnston believes there's a real possibility. Sanders, currently coaching at the University of Colorado, has acknowledged discussions with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones about the open coaching position, while expressing his commitment to Colorado. Johnston, however, told OutKick's "Hot Mic" that the chances of Sanders moving to Dallas are "legit."

A significant hurdle is Sanders' stated desire to coach his son, Shedeur, at the NFL level. This presents a challenge in Dallas, given the presence of established quarterback Dak Prescott. Johnston questioned the wisdom of bringing in Sanders if it means accommodating Shedeur at Prescott's expense.

Johnston emphasized the need for upfront communication regarding the quarterback situation, suggesting the Cowboys should clarify that Shedeur's involvement might not be feasible. Shedeur is projected as a potential top NFL draft pick, while the Cowboys currently hold the 12th pick.

Sanders played for the Cowboys from 1995 to 1999, contributing to their last Super Bowl victory. He earned Pro Bowl selections in four of those five seasons. The Cowboys recently parted ways with coach Mike McCarthy after five seasons.
