Texas Congressman Aims to Block UN Funding for Mass Migration

Created: JANUARY 05, 2025

Texas Representative Lance Gooden has revived his legislative effort to halt federal funding to United Nations bodies involved in mass migration. This move aligns with the Trump administration's broader crackdown on international funding.

Gooden's bill, titled the "No Tax Dollars for the United Nation’s Immigration Invasion Act," seeks to prevent funding from reaching the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the U.N. Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

The proposed legislation also mandates a comprehensive study to identify all federal grants awarded to these U.N. agencies and associated NGOs. Furthermore, it requires the report to pinpoint any funds that should be returned to the U.S. government.

Gooden argues that these organizations are effectively facilitating illegal immigration into the United States, posing a threat to national security and sovereignty. He stated, "It’s time to stop subsidizing our own destruction." He further emphasized his collaboration with the Trump administration to address this issue.

This initiative builds upon Gooden's longstanding concerns about funding directed to the U.N. and non-profits that he believes incentivize mass migration. This concern is shared by the Trump administration, which implemented a 90-day freeze on foreign aid upon taking office and has significantly reduced funding to USAID.

This focus on migration follows a period of heightened border activity during the Biden administration. The Trump administration has responded by deploying military personnel to the border, restricting asylum claims, terminating parole programs, and initiating a large-scale deportation effort.

This bill follows another recent piece of legislation introduced by Gooden that aims to prevent federal contracts and grants from being awarded to NGOs unless they certify to the Office of Management and Budget that they are not involved in human trafficking or smuggling. This legislation also proposes revoking the tax-exempt status of organizations found to be knowingly violating federal law.
