A 29-year-old Florida man, Brian Darnold, faces negligent manslaughter charges following a deadly confrontation outside an Oviedo 7-Eleven in May. The incident, which initially began with a request for cannabis, escalated into a physical altercation that left 62-year-old Amir Aryafar brain-dead.
According to police reports and surveillance footage, Aryafar inquired about cannabis with Darnold, who denied having any. Darnold alleges Aryafar became aggressive. As Darnold's vehicle began to leave, he claims Aryafar pursued the car. Darnold then exited the moving vehicle and punched Aryafar, causing him to fall and strike his head on the pavement. Contrary to Darnold's assertion that Aryafar threw the first punch, surveillance video reportedly does not corroborate this claim. The footage also suggests Aryafar was not in the vehicle's path.

Darnold and the driver of the vehicle left the scene without providing assistance to the injured Aryafar. Aryafar was rushed to Oviedo Medical Center and later transferred to Florida Lake Monroe Hospital due to severe brain trauma. He was declared brain-dead the following day and taken off life support on May 3rd. The Lake County Medical Examiner officially ruled the death a homicide on June 19th, leading to Darnold's arrest and subsequent transport to John E. Polk Correctional Facility in Sanford.
