Created: JANUARY 27, 2025

In a dramatic early morning rescue, a Wisconsin police officer saved three cows from a burning barn. Officer Andrew Crabb of the Sturgeon Bay Police Department was nearing the end of his shift on June 25th when he spotted thick smoke billowing from a nearby farm. Initially suspecting it was haze from the Canadian wildfires, he quickly realized the smoke was originating from a barn fire.

Upon arriving at the scene, Officer Crabb discovered three cows trapped behind a locked gate within the burning structure. Recognizing the imminent danger, he sprang into action, forcing open the gate and leading the frightened animals to safety. The cows, seemingly aware of the urgency, quickly followed him out of the barn and rejoined the rest of the herd in the pasture.

Officer Crabb commended the swift response of the local volunteer fire brigade, who managed to contain the fire and save a significant portion of the barn. The daughter of the farm's owner, Jaci Bear, expressed her gratitude to Officer Crabb and the firefighters in a Facebook post, acknowledging that the situation could have been much worse.

The incident, captured on Officer Crabb's bodycam, highlights the dedication and quick thinking of first responders in protecting both people and animals. The farm owner later confirmed that the rescued cows were known to be escape-prone and were being housed in the barn overnight for that reason.
