After nine seasons, Derek Carr's tenure with the Las Vegas Raiders ended on a sour note. The quarterback recently shared insights into his departure, revealing the ultimate breaking point in his relationship with the team.

In an interview with the Fresno Bee, Carr explained that even if the Raiders had compromised after benching him, the damage was irreparable. "Once they made my wife cry, that was pretty much over," Carr stated. He emphasized that his love for his teammates might have swayed him to stay, but the circumstances and timing ultimately dictated his exit. "It was time for me to move on."

Carr's benching occurred after a Week 15 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, with Jarrett Stidham taking over as starter for the remaining two games, both of which resulted in losses for the Raiders.

Expressing his anger over the situation, Carr told the Fresno Bee, "I was very upset; I was mad." He highlighted his nine years with the team, the records he holds, and his ability to play at a high level. He expressed a willingness to forgo financial considerations for the opportunity to play two more games in front of the fans, an opportunity he ultimately didn't receive. This fueled his determination to move forward.

Carr also acknowledged the challenges he faced with approximately six head coaches and four offensive coordinators during his time with the Raiders from 2014 to 2022. While he regretted not winning more games, he pointed to the frequent coaching changes as a contributing factor.
